Benefits of Animal Testing:

All though there are many downsides to using animals to test products there are also many positive aspects too. Companies test their products on animals before selling them to make sure that they are safe for humans to use. Anesthesia, the drug used to numb the body during surgery, was only available after it had been successfully tested on animals. Many of the tests on animals have been used to find cures for diseases such as herpes simplex, hepatitis B, polio, rabies, malaria, mumps, and many viruses relating to organ transplant rejection. The number of human deaths from cardiovascular diseases have decreased because of the knowledge gained from animal research. In a survey conducted by the American Medical Association, 99% of all active physicians in the U.S. believe that animal research has greatly increased medical advancements. 97% of the physicians surveyed supported the continuing use of animal testing if the animals were only used for clinical and basic research. France, one of the most influential nations in Europe, is against banning animal testing. This research has not only benefited humans, many animals have also benefited from animal testing. The heartworm medication, that protects dogs from heartworm disease, was created from animal testing and has saved many dog's lives. Scientists have also gained a better understanding of a cat's nutrition and health and have used this knowledge to make cats live longer. Many people believe that we must continue to use animal testing to better the human population.
